Who We Are
Building the bridge to independence.
ABIDE exists to help young women transitioning from care build the foundations, capabilities and connections needed to create independent futures.
Our Purpose
We focus on where participants are capable of going.
The transition into adulthood is complex even with strong family and social support. For young women leaving care, many of the structures other young adults rely upon may be limited or unavailable.
ABIDE was created to help strengthen that transition. Our work brings together education, economic opportunity, practical preparation, technology, mentorship and institutional partnerships to create clearer pathways into adulthood.
We do not define participants by the circumstances they are leaving.
Our Mission
To equip and connect young women transitioning from care with the knowledge, capabilities, relationships and opportunities required to build stable, independent and fulfilling lives.
Our Vision
A Trinidad and Tobago where every young woman transitioning from care has a realistic pathway to education, economic independence, personal stability and meaningful participation in society.
Our Belief
Potential should not be determined by circumstance.
ABIDE believes every young woman should have the opportunity to develop her abilities, pursue meaningful work, build financial independence and participate fully in society.
Transitioning from care should represent the beginning of a new chapter, not the disappearance of a support system.
How We Work
An ecosystem approach.
Rather than attempting to provide every service internally, we connect participants with organisations and individuals capable of creating real opportunities.
The result is a growing network designed around one goal: helping young women build sustainable independence.
- Employers
- Educational institutions
- Training providers
- Entrepreneurs
- Financial institutions
- Technology companies
- Mentors
- Public-sector organisations
- Development partners
- Community organisations
Our Values
What guides our work.
Dignity
Every participant deserves respect, privacy and agency.
Opportunity
Potential grows when people can access real opportunities.
Independence
Support should ultimately strengthen the ability to make decisions and build a sustainable life.
Innovation
Technology, new partnerships and creative approaches can help close longstanding gaps.
Collaboration
Meaningful transition requires an ecosystem.
Accountability
Our programmes and partnerships should produce measurable outcomes.
Founders
Founded in Trinidad and Tobago in 2021.
ABIDE was founded by sisters Andrea and Avelon Davis and officially launched in October 2021, after listening to young women preparing to leave care describe what the transition ahead of them would demand. Like the butterfly that symbolises transformation, ABIDE exists to help each participant move from vulnerability to resilience and from instability to independence.
